Following were the main reason for decline of Mughal Empire:-
Rebellion
- Local leaders challenged Mughal power
- Previously loyal princes rebelled against Mughal authority
- Mughal provisional governors declared independence
- The Maratha factor (They had good skills as guerrilla fighters, were present at time of Aurangzeb)
Invasion
- Invasions from Persia and Afghanistan
- Start of European conquests
Problems in Delhi
- Failure of leadership
- Self-indulgence and pleasure seeking among the Mughal nobility
- Difficulty collecting funds and shortage of funds
- Military strength grew weaker
